In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace. Romans 6:11-14 (NIV)

You get what you tolerate.

That is something I learned in my first couple years of ministry. If it is happening in my life or under my leadership it is because I am tolerating it.

To tolerate something is to give it permission. To give it permission is to accept it and to accept it is to submit to it. When we tolerate something we are letting it be our master.

Jesus came to pay for our sin and because He came back to life, death no longer has any power over Him. Because Jesus destroyed death, anything that leads to death has no authority on Jesus. Those who trust Jesus as their Savior share in the life and authority over death that Jesus won. This means sin no longer is our master.

To tolerate sin is to let it master us. When we share in the life Jesus gives us, we no longer have to to tolerate sin.

My next step:
Don’t tolerate sin because it’s not my master.
